"Lines, shades and colors put to paper are simple compared to the realities of this world of forms and light."
~ Gene Hempel Gene Hempel's vision of the complex world was captured in quick sketches and strokes. He represented the contours, textures and edges of shapes - creating a visual shorthand - a glimpse of not only what he saw but the his perspective. From sketches to complex paintings, one can discover the artist's sense of wonder, beauty and humor. This set of slides is a sample of the variety of subjects that caught the artist's eye prior to 1970. |
